Annenberg Reaction

I found "Promises of Urban Schools" eeye openning. Sometimes coming were you come from you think the whole world is "peaches and cream" and it isn't. Not only did this reading have great examples of urban schools, but it also gave us some demographic statistics. This reading showed us that most urban schools host low- income families and families of color. I found that upsetting and if you read some of my previous posts you'll find out why.

I liked the fact that the Senior Fellow were A) supporting the addition of music and poetry to instill some creativity in the students and B) Were looking for ways to correct the problems in Urban areas.

Lastly, there was a quote that talked about how urban schools can't afford the same things rural and suburban schools can, so their students aren't getting the same caliber education. I believe that schools should be funded by the US government so that every single one of the United States's children has the same educational opportunites as the next! (Now I relize that this proposition might raise alot of controversy, so if you have any ideas comment on it.)

No contraversy here Jimmy Shoez, I absolutely agree. I just commented on a fellow colleges blog expressing the same idea you stated. I think it is time that our schools in the country receive more help from the government to bring stronger equal opportunities for all school systems despite economics within the communites.

I always see that we keep blaming money budget for our problems about our schools and teaching/learning problems. If you teach or give the impression that money are everything and that without money you can't do a thing, your students will believe the same. We as future teachers should teach our students that we can use our imagination and create things because one of the main problems that I see today is kids since little have a lack of imagination because their teachers do not tell them or do not show them how to! and that is sad. I believe that money can make our life easier but they are not going to fix every single problem in the schools and in life. Take a look of our university there are new builings, rooms and equipments that we don't even know to have and we never use them and the university keeps building and asking for more money, for what reason? let's stop blaming money that's all that I want say...
Let me know what you think. the italian teacher..
